We are honored to have visiting Professor Fried at the Les Bavards
presentation Thursday December 11at 7pm at the Waterville Maine Public
Library.

a Libra Visiting Professor at the University of Maine System, Jean Fried is
currently a professor at the University Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg, France,
where he has the Chair of Fluid Mechanics. He also is an adviser on
sustainable co-development,
i.e. the setting of sustainable development policies through international
cooperation, at the Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Tourism of
France in Paris.
In Maine he is teaching two courses on international policy: at the
University of Maine at Orono, European Union institutions and the EU
environmental policy; at USM, sustainable co-development as an instrument of
international cooperation taking
into account historic and cultural dimensions, with an ethical prospective.
He will give a talk (in English or in French, as requested by the audience!)
on the significance of History and Culture in economic development. He will
discuss the research project that the department of Franco-American Studies
of the University of
Maine and the Centre Franco-Americain at Orono are preparing with his
assistance on this subject, on the case of the Franco-American Community of
Maine.
